Fishing the Tauranga-Taupo River

This river runs within 100m of Kereru Lodge as it descends from the Kaimanawa Ranges into Lake Taupo. It offers excellent rainbow and brown trout fishing both in winter, when the lower reaches provide good access to the fresh runs of spawning fish and in summer when the resident trout happily rise to the dry fly.

Wilderness Fishing

October 1st - April 30th. The back country rivers of the Central North Island offer unlimited opportunities for the keen angler, whether you drive, raft, or fly for the wily Browns of the Mohaka River, or the fighting rainbows of the Ngaruroro River and Rangitikei River. Single or Multi-day trips are available from Taupo.

Raft-fishing

A wonderful tool to access stretches of water difficult to access by foot.. We do not fish from the raft, it is a mode of transport from pool to pool on these more remote waters. I highly recommend either a one or two day trip, where we camp on the riverbank. A true wilderness experience. All equipment supplied.

Heli Fishing

For the ultimate backcountry fishing a helicopter can take us to a wide range of rivers diverse in the fishing and scenery they have to offer. Imagine stalking and casting to a trophy brown or rainbow trout that has rarely seen a dry fly.

Winter Fishing

May 1st - September 30th. Our back country rivers close for spawning five months of the year. The lower reaches of the rivers and tributaries of Lake Taupo then come into their own, offering excellent fishing as the trout run from the lake up river; one of these being the famous Tongariro River. The peak months are June, July & August.
